Announcement from No Woman, No Cry, March 2014
It is with mixed emotions that we announce “No Woman No Cry” will not be hosting
our annual 5K this year. The event requires a great deal of time, emotion,
planning, money, coordination and participation. Given waning participant
numbers over the last two years, we are looking closely at the value proposition
and where and how we may add value and focus to the issue of domestic violence.
NWNC was founded in love, hope & the desire to help raise domestic violence
awareness after the tragic loss of our dear friend Jenny Vaughn Bates in 2010.
The past three years have been filled with successes, challenges and
opportunities to empower, uplift and encourage those effected by domestic
violence. During this time we have raised approximately $30,000 that has
directly benefitted Jenny's children via their Trust, our Partner, the National
Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) and ACTS Turning Points.
We could not have accomplished all that we did without the outpouring of support
from our participants, volunteers, local business sponsors, friends, community
and our committee dedicating tireless hours to this important cause. We will
continue our efforts to stop the silence of domestic violence and ask that you
support these efforts through organizations and shelters in your area.
